And a 9th Infantry Division Basic yearbook from 1950, it also has the 1st Army patch on it as well, here it is the old OD type, it will soon be superseded by the new Red and White one, that one comes out in November 1950.

Another Cake sighting. The Ballistic Missile Agency on a Cake.

The unit commander John Bruce Medaris gets set to cut it up for guests with a sword at the unit's one year anniversary party in 1956 at the Redstone Arsenal Alabama.

Photo from a 1944 issue of Army Life showing a WAC wearing the Replacement And School Command SSI and Infantry School DUI on her cap while standing nect to a sign depicting the Infantry School SSI/DUI. Of course at this time, the insignia had only been approved as the DUI for the Infantry School and would not be approved as a separate SSI until 1951.

Here's an odd one. The sign was located at Camp Carter, the headquarters for Company P 75th Infantry, the LRRP unit assigned to the 1st Brigade 5th Infantry Division in Vietnam. As the photo states, Camp Carter was located at Quang Tri, which was in the very northernmost part of of I Corps in South Vietnam, only a few miles from the DMZ.

The sign shows the SSI of the 5th Infantry division with an AIRBORNE tab on the right.

But notice that on the left it also shows the SSI of II Field Force Vietnam with an AIRBORNE tab. IIFFV was a corps level headquarters that commanded Army units in the III and IV Corps Tactical Zones of South Vietnam, the area around Saigon down to the Mekong Delta, and hundreds of miles from Quang Tri.

1st Armored Division patch placard affixed to a tank, maybe the command tank of William Desorby who's standing in front of it in 1971

Thanks D. A mural then, wow it looks very Art Deco, very 20s 30s, like some I've seen on the walls of Rockefeller Center or in the Chrysler Building here in Manhattan.

Jimmy standing in front of it, here we get a good view of this 8th AF mural.
