Wharfmaster

Anyone remember Ed "Big Daddy" Roth and his unique style of artwork?

Yep. Purchased one of his custom sweatshirts when I was a kid. Wish I still had it.

4th Service Command on the gas tank of this 4th Service Command Motorcycle, the MP as we see is a Pacfic Combat Infantryman Vet with the Silver Star, the Purple Heart we see as well, so a wounded vet back stateside and now an MP, photo maybe from the summer of 1944 as we're not seeing a WWII Victory medal Or in the early summer of 1945 before the medal came out. (Photo from member Bolo).

I would assume this soldier was part of the 25th or 43rd Infantry division, they would be the only units to have 3 stars on the Asiatic Pacific without Philippines.

I'm not sure what this sign is or what it represents, but I would guess it is located at the headquarters of some joint activity in either Iraq or Afghanistan. The SSI or crest are (Top left to right): unknown, 2nd Medical Brigade, Puerto Rico National Guard, Florida National Guard, 218th Infantry Brigade/Maneuver Enhancement Brigade; (Bottom left to right): U.S. Navy, 92nd Infantry Brigade, 35th Infantry Division, 38th Infantry Division, Individual Ready Reserve. Any ideas what the crest/SSI in the upper left hand corner is? It may be British.

The SSI in the upper left corner is for West Virginia National Guard

Thanks for the reply. As many times as I've seen the National Guard patches over the years, that particular one did not register with me at all.

Whatever happened to that banner I wonder. Imagine that in your collection, hard to display.

Yeah that's a great question Billy. like the one in post # 34 8th Div and all the others, can't imagine these troopship coming home banners were simply thrown away.

The use of the Screaming Eagles patch was not as we see restricted only to the division's helicopters, here we see it on the M113 APC of the division's recon unit, the 2nd Squadron 17th Cavalry in April 1968, B Troop. At this time the squadron was strictly a ground recon unit with ACPs and M48 Tanks, with it's only its D Troop being Air. A few months later the whole squadron was reorganized as redesignated as an Air Cavalry Squadron, ths done to support the division's new airmobile capability, the ground recon troop now being D Troop.

Mediterranean Allied AIr Forces, Army Air Forces and Twelfth Air Force - June 1944. I believe the general with the MAAF SSI is Ira C. Eaker.
