Looks like the freebies you get in the VFW for each member recruited.......it's nothing to to do with the greatest action figure ever.

Your VFW pin is most likely a memento of the 1972 Pennsylvania State Convention. All soldiers in WWII were referred to as "G.I. Joe" as a generic term- if you didn't know someone's name- you'd call them Joe, as in: "Hey Joe, you got an extra cigarette?" There was even a movie which starred Robert Mitchum and based on the writings of Ernie Pyle which came out in 1945 called "The Story of GI Joe."

 

Your type II collar disk is for the 114th Infantry Regiment, New Jersey National Guard.
