I couldn't find the motto "Proof By Trial" listed for any Army unit in WW2. Finally after scouring the internet I found the WW2 unit, the 1st Pursuit Squadron a part of the 23rd Composite Group stationed at Orlando Air Field and later Eglin Air Field.
