Enlisted-men wear rank on both sides, officers & warrant officers wear one rank and one branch of service insignia.

Worth $25 each? This is my favorite camo pattern as of late. I recently started liking this pattern more and more. There's a CIB in the army uniform's pocket that never got sewn on.

I have a small pile of DCUs, all issued to me.

This one is one of the first I was issued in 2003 just prior to deployment.  Like a lot of things at that time, desert issue items were in short supply. The sum total of the issue was 2 DCUs, 2 pairs of boots, a boonie hat, a helmet cover, and a 2-qt canteen with tan cover and strap.

I pulled all the patches from a BDU to comply with directives sent down from on high that we had to wear name tape, U.S. Army tape, rank, unit patch, and U.S. flag, and any individually authorized scare-me badges were optional.  I had a sewing machine and did all my own uniforms, which explains some of the less-than-stellar patch placement.

That sewing machine also got me a lot of beer.  I'd sew up my friends' uniforms for the price of a six pack when I'd sewn enough stuff that they felt guilty.  When DCUs were issued, we had three options for getting them badged: take them to CIF and Quartermaster would do them when they got around to it; take them to the PX sew shop and shell out $1.00 per patch and the "Airborne" tab counted as its own patch; or bring it to me and have it back that afternoon.  What started as a quiet favor for my platoon turned into piles of bundled DCU shirts separated as to which of the six companies (HHC, A, B, C, D, and D Battery) the owner came from.  The beer stash became equally epic, to the point where my 1SG said to me, "Doc, what's my barracks alcohol policy?"  Me: "One six pack and one bottle of hard liquor per man per room, First Sergeant."  Him: "Correct.  You need to throw a party.  All of this is gone by Monday."  Me: Roger, First Sergeant."

We jumped into northern Iraq a little less than a week later.

Here's an M65 jacket I recently picked up. Probably my most expensive "modern" piece of uniform gear (excluding ACH helmets). A Major's M65 with jump wings, nice Armored patch, crisp name and branch tapes, and major oak leaves on the shoulders. Invasion flag on the shoulder too. Made in either 2001 or 1999, I don't know which.

My most recent "DCU" purchase. Theater made shirt for a child. All the insignia is full size and Iraqi made I believe. I assume the shirt was also made in theater as well. Instead of buttons the front is secured by a velcro strip.

Thrift store find today.  2007 EA Industries.  Partially stripped, but the stitching marks are pretty clearly USACE Civilian to me.IMG_20240123_1844198472.jpg.21bff9a51c972a292a8b6f4099e01aad.jpg
