atb Posted June 1, 2010 Share #527 Posted June 1, 2010 I am thinking it stands for, 'US Army Corps (of) Engineers' (USACE) Right, and it is for a government (Department of the Army) civilian employed by the Corps of Engineers, not a contractor. That is what the triangle-US insignia indicates, a government employee.
Hellcat Posted June 2, 2010 Share #528 Posted June 2, 2010 Hi Guys, Just thought I would post pics of this DCU jacket that I have in my collection. Jacket is from Desert Shield/Storm. Appears all insignia, name tapes and skill badges are theatre made. Jacket(and pants are not issue, but private purchase. Vietnam vet. The only thing that bothers me is that there is no rank, and no indication that there ever was. Another question... What is the skill badge above the "name" tape? Something to do with ordnance?? I have a second set from the same GI, but the patches are direct embroidered on the jacket. I will post pics of this one also.

P-E Posted June 2, 2010 Share #543 Posted June 2, 2010 Lt. Col. Stumpf DCU. I obtained this jacket along with his PASGT helmet. Beautiful, but these jacket have a problem...the seller sold 4 of these jackets, all with the same arabic name, all with same patches, qualifications and rank...BUT they have 3 differents sew-on officier badges...: - two have the MP branch sew-on officer badge - one had civil affairs - last one had artillery... so there's a problem with these jackets... I asked the question to the seller on ebay and he told me he found them as it directly by Stumpf. Here's the pictures for the 4 jackets sold by this seller (with the same patches and arabic names) ; 1st Jacket (with civil affairs sew-on officer badge) : 2nd Jacket (with military police sew-on officer badge) :
P-E Posted June 2, 2010 Share #544 Posted June 2, 2010 3rd Jacket (with military police sew-on officer badge) :- it's your 4th Jacket (with artillery sew-on officer badge) : for me there's a problem ; this soldier has three different branch badge... how can you explain it ? But well, for the price you got it, it's an excellent price !
HoovieDude Posted June 2, 2010 Share #545 Posted June 2, 2010 for me there's a problem ; this soldier has three different branch badge... how can you explain it ? But well, for the price you got it, it's an excellent price ! The foreign jump wings on the DCU's are a bit dubious as well, since they are only supposed to be worn on the service dress. But then again, my modified DCU's above aren't exactly reg either!!! At least the name in Arabic is good, or real close at any rate. Had one of my native speakers check it out. Hum, I don't agree with you for the german jump wings. I already see it on some BDU jackets (woodland camo). The arabic is correct, I verify, name is good (it's well stumpf). Patches and badges look to be correct and jacket looks to be little used. For me, the only problem is these sew-on officer badges...there's no reason they are all different. Moreover seller explain me : "These jackets are absolutely original and purchased from Col. Stumpf's estate. I did notice that the branch insignia are different, but I do not know why. I have one more shirt left that I will list in the next few weeks--it also has the MP branch insignia. [name removed] ". So, there's a big problem with that...if original, why different branch badges ?
Nkomo Posted June 2, 2010 Share #547 Posted June 2, 2010 I have been contacted by a seller, who is in no way connected to the seller of these uniforms on Ebay, and he has also offered me a Lt. Col. Stumpf DCU with Civil Affairs collar insignia. Both sellers are located in Texas, only a short drive apart. I have no reason to doubt either seller because both have been very honest with me and both have legit items. I'll be honest....I'm not 100% sure why he'd have so many different collar insignias. Could it be a put together...sure. Could it be original...sure. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this. I have also contacted the other seller to see what he says about these DCU's. It's really strange. To be honest, I well see and follow these 4 jackets on ebay...but this difference of branch badges is too strange for me. That the reason why I don't bid on them. And yes, I well see the feedback and items of this seller on ebay, and he looks to be honest. But well, it's too strange... And I verify, the buyer of the jacket with civil affairs branch badge lives in Kansas. one day he's civil affairs, one other day he's artillery, and two others days he's MP... This LTC has a double personality
Nkomo Posted June 2, 2010 Share #549 Posted June 2, 2010 Was doing a little research on Lt. Col. Stumps and found this reference. Is it the same Stumpf? Could be because of the Civil Affairs and European connection. The arabic is correct, I verify, name is good (it's well stumpf). Patches and badges look to be correct and jacket looks to be little used. You can disagree all you want. I simply said that foreign jump wings, by regulation, are not authorized to be worn on the utility uniform. Not that regs are always followed as we well know. My uniform, along all the othes posted here prove that. But in view of the problem with the different branch insignia worn on these uniforms, adds to the question on these uniforms that you bring up. A quick search shows that there is or was a Lt Col Stumpf, who was CA and served in Centcom at one time.
