A beautifully used VF-171 patch!! I was really happy to get this one. These guys were on NAS Oceana from 1977-1984 and they were the F-4 Phantom training squadron. I remember the Phantom at Oceana when I was there working on Intruders. Always wanted one of these on Velcro and felt really fortunate to get this one. Thanks for looking.

Another patch for VF-124. Apparently this patch was produced to be sewn to a cap.

AIRASRON FORTY ONE (VS-41) SHAMROCKS - An ASW training squadron for crews of anti-submarine aircraft established on 30 June 1960 as an anti-submarine squadron. The squadron was nicknamed the Shamrocks and based at the Naval Air Station North Island, California

First patch design (1960's) as a training squadron (note the lamp)

post-2322-0-91563500-1562455086.jpg

VS-41 was originally activated in 1960 to train the crews of Grumman S-2 Tracker anti-submarine aircraft for the United States Navy. Two squadrons equipped with the Tracker were based each on the anti-submarine carriers (CVS) of the Essex-class to counter the threat of the large Soviet submarine fleet. In the mid-1970 both the CVS-carriers and the S-2 Tracker were phased out.

VAK-208 JOCKEYS - USNR - When the Naval Air Reserve was reorganized in 1970 Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 208 was established on July 31 at NAS Alameda, California, as part of Carrier Air Wing Twenty. Equipped with KA-3Bs to support CVWR-20 operations, VAQ-208 also began providing air refueling and pathfinding for Navy and Marine tactical aircraft being ferried to Southeast Asia.

During the 1971 India-Pakistan conflict and the 1973 Yom Kippur War, VAQ-208 jointly with VAQ-308 provided crews and aircraft to support emergency deployments of U.S. Naval aircraft. During the seventies, the squadron also provided tanking platforms for test and development of the Lockheed S-3A Viking and Grumman F-14A Tomcat.

On 1 October 1979, in recognition of its primary use as a refueling and pathfinding unit, the squadron was redesignated VAK-208. They were disestablished 30 September 1989.

VA 35, This is the second design and one of the longest tenured squadron designs in the USN, this is I believe from the 50's not sure on what exact year. The ATTACK RON (rather than ATKRON) is the tell for time. Also came with a TF77 ATTACK RON 35 patch. The larger patch is about 5.5 inches high

Hi All,

The final version of the VA-55 Torpcat squadron patch and a particular favorite of mine. This image was taken from the 1954/1955 VA-55 XO's flight jacket & from within my collection. What makes my jackets so unusual is the fact that he had both VA-55's last Torpcat and 1st version of the Warhorses squadron patches attached to his (leather & canvas) flight jackets.

Does anyone have information on this patch? The Dictionary of American Naval Aviation Squadrons vol 1 states the design was used for 17 years, from 1950 to 1967. The illustration has no tabs and describes the design as having a white background, yellow devil, orange lightning bolt and black ace of spades. I have seen remakes of this patch, but none with the "Yellow Devils" lower tab. The patch is 6.25 in. high and 6.0 in. wide across the bottom scroll. Thanks for any insights.
