hink441 Posted July 20, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 20, 2014 I like to collect the NAVAIR squadron patches when I come across them. I will start with a few of my favorite squadron patches. I would like to see some of your squadron patches also, so please feel free to post all of the ones you have acquired!!! First is a VF-11 patch, velcro backed and straight of a flight suit. sigsaye Posted July 20, 2014 Share #8 Posted July 20, 2014 VA52flew A-6s off my first ship, USS Kitty Hawk, '73-'75. I was a Ground Support Tech at the time. I remember them as, all in all, good guys. They took care of the gear they got from us and treated us as part of the team, rather than as "Servants" like some of the Air Wing people did. sigsaye Posted July 22, 2014 Share #10 Posted July 22, 2014 Sigs, I was a career airwinger, and I learned early on to never p@$$ off the AS's and Yellow shirts. Those guys could make or break you on the flight deck! Chris Chris, interesting you should mention that. Most Air Wingers were good guys, who worked with GSE. But, there are always those that for one reason or another seem to think they are "Special". Without the Airwing, a Carrier is just so many thousands of tons of useless junk. With out Ground Support, planes don't fly. Pretty simple. We Had a "World Famous" F-4 squadron that thought they were a big deal. They would just take gear from the stack with out checking it out. One time they took a hydraulic Jenny to do maintenance. If they had checked out the equipment like they should have, they would have known it was down for contaminated fluid. We walked out onto the hanger deck when we heard the engine of the Jenny running and saw they had a Phantom on jacks (also. Or checked out and were pumping contaminated fluid through their plane! We laughed very hard, let them run the full check, THEN let them know what they had done. THEY were upset at us! There was also an S-2G squadron that chose to ignore procedures. When they changed oil in those big Pratt&Whittneys, they pumped the waste oil into 55 gallon drums and we disposed of it. We had a system where we pressurized the barrel and pumped the dirty oil out. Well, the ADRs would stuff paper towels or old dirty rags in the barrels. These would clog the system, so we had to de pressurize the system, back blow, tear everything apart and unclog it all. We would ask (nicely of course) that they not do that in the future. Their Maintenance Chief told us it was not their problem! Oh, ummm, yes it is Chief. After that, their tools and those of the Fighter squadron started to go missing. If you are failure with NAvAIR, you know that all tools are accounted by sight inventory after a maintainence action, or the plane does not fly. They will take the plane apart looking, for that tool. Silly Air Wingers, leaving their tools out where those shifty Ships Company guys can get them! Planes don't fly, pilots get no flight pay, sort of helped us come to an agreement

hink441 Posted August 4, 2014 Author Share #14 Posted August 4, 2014 Here is a grouping of patches I acquired from a fellow forum member. These are the East Coast S-3 Viking Wing, NAD Jax, and a pair of "Bear-trap" Crew patches. These are all velcro backed. The Bear-trap crew patches are neat. They were secret Soviet Submarine hunter crews that had highly sophisticated equipment that flew in specially fitted P-3 aircraft. There were also a small number of S-3 aircraft that also flew the bear-trap equipment. Thanks for looking.
