Austin_Militaria Posted July 9, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 9, 2014 I thought it would be nice to have a pinned thread for Vintage WWI and WWII patch blankets. Since most get cut up and destroyed it would make a great reference. Here are two that I have come across lately.

doyler Posted July 9, 2014 Share #5 Posted July 9, 2014 Italian made BS patch.Looks like a mule wearin boxing gloves sitting on a B24 surrounded by FLAK. There was another leather patch on the piece and it looked like a flag but its long worn off.

Sabrejet Posted July 9, 2014 Share #9 Posted July 9, 2014 The tooled-leather Italian patches are beautiful. It's such a shame that the design on your example is partly worn away. It would have been spectacular! Have you ID'd the squadron?

36-tex Posted July 9, 2014 Share #12 Posted July 9, 2014 These were stitched onto a burlap bag. As the burlap started to fray, it was pulling the felt causing tears.
doyler Posted July 9, 2014 Share #13 Posted July 9, 2014 Great stuff Mark. Is your first one sewn on a black Navy scarf??
36-tex Posted July 9, 2014 Share #14 Posted July 9, 2014 Ron, not a scarf but a silky table cover. It was also fraying and tearing at the patches.

PATCHRAT Posted July 10, 2014 Share #17 Posted July 10, 2014 Not exactly a blanket, But this large piece of felt has a collection of South Korea patches on it. They were assembled by a U.S. dependent while in Seoul. His words "South Korean Military Patches that I collected between 1961 to 1963 when I was living in Seoul, Korea. Believe it or not I was only 11 or 12 when I collected them. My Dad, in the Army at the time, was assigned to KMAG (Korean Military Advisory Group). We lived in Seoul, Korea" I was very excited to get this small piece of felt, I cant imagine a hole blanket full of patches.

vzemke Posted July 11, 2014 Share #19 Posted July 11, 2014 I've had about half a dozen patch blankets over the years, and this is the only one I have kept. Several nice pieces on there including a "blooded" 1st Marine Division and the boring but very rare Field Artillery Replacement Training Center Instructor patch.
