firebaseb Posted July 9, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 9, 2014 Recently found this canteen that had some field camo work done to it. The paint appear's to be the same texture / color as used on sea bags & other gear for water proofing that I've seen. Just wanted to get your thoughts. Having the luxury of holding it in my hands this look's to be period done to me. Thanks in advance......

gunbunnyB/3/75FA Posted July 9, 2014 Share #3 Posted July 9, 2014 i like that its got even fading overall, i would say it's real, what's the date of the canteen,if you don't mind my asking?
firebaseb Posted July 9, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted July 9, 2014 Thanks for the question gunbunny. The canteen is manufactured by ACA & is dated 1918 along with the cup. Looks like there was a date on the inside cover flap, but is now unreadable. The canteen body look's to have been through some kind of acid bath at one time for a camo effect also. Thanks for the opines so far.........
firebaseb Posted July 9, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted July 9, 2014 There is a name that has been written in electric pencil on the bottom of the cup. Jim John, I don't know if It's this Service Member's real name or maybe just a knick name. My guess is he was Army or Marine Corps. Can anyone here help in possibly identifying this individual ? Thanks again.

pzjgr Posted July 9, 2014 Share #7 Posted July 9, 2014 Hey there is/was a well known hot dog stand on the way into Philly... Shoot, I don't know why but I can't copy and paste to here...anyway, if you go to www.jimmyjohns1940.com you can see their history...Jimmy John opened the stand in 1940, it was run by his wife during WWII, and when Jimmy John returned from overseas in 1945 he picked it back up...so maybe his canteen? That would be cool, we used to eat there all the time when we went into Philly or were headed to Brigantine, NJ....
