tbirdismypride Posted June 12, 2008 Share #1 Posted June 12, 2008 I havent seen this patch before. Dont recognize it at all. I dont think its a rank patch as much as a rate for a specific job or outfit. Please know that since I have never seen this rate before it is quite possible that it is upside down. doyler Posted June 12, 2008 Share #2 Posted June 12, 2008 I believe it is a first style armored or tank patch normally worn on the right sleeve during WW1.Some where I had read it was not only a specialty patch for WW1 but when worn on the sleeve alone it was also for a private rank.Looks a little darker than I have seen.I couldnt tell by the pic if its original.Hope this helps.I can check Emersons book when I get home or maybe another forum member will have more information than I. 36-tex Posted June 12, 2008 Share #3 Posted June 12, 2008 Doyler, you are right on! It is a rank patch for armored forces in WWI.

J_Andrews Posted June 13, 2008 Share #6 Posted June 13, 2008 These Army branch-emblem round patches signified a Private First Class, but in effect they were akin to Spec-4, qualified in a specialty, with a pay bonues (over Pvt), but no command authority.
