son of desertrat Posted June 25, 2014 Share #1 Posted June 25, 2014 Ive acquired these from ebay after having just a sgt in the original collection. And, these are hard to find. Does anyone have any information about them? Thanks Keenan
patches Posted June 25, 2014 Share #2 Posted June 25, 2014 They appear to be U.S. made Late-ish 20s through the 30s applique, could no doubt be still seen being worn here and there by the early 40s, very nice too I might add.
Desertrat Posted November 2, 2017 Share #3 Posted November 2, 2017 3 years later and we have almost got a full set. I feel like these are not 20s-30s but late 30s through the early 40s, evidenced by my latest 2 finds...a Tech 4 and 5.
gap Posted December 16, 2017 Share #4 Posted December 16, 2017 Awesome, Have never seen tech stripes in this version. You need staff sergeant and First Sergeant?
Desertrat Posted December 17, 2017 Share #5 Posted December 17, 2017 I just got a pair of SSG chevrons of eNsy last week
vzemke Posted December 18, 2017 Share #6 Posted December 18, 2017 I've always thought this style of chevron was interesting. Since the Technician ranks didn't come about until 1942, I think it's reasonable to assume this style of chevron is wartime.
Desertrat Posted December 18, 2017 Share #7 Posted December 18, 2017 I agree. I made contact with William Emerson and this is what he said..."The style with twill bars sewn onto the dark twill was never prescribed but during the WW II buildup (1940) and early in the war, the demand was so great for chevrons that this design came into use." bbmilitaria Posted December 19, 2017 Share #8 Posted December 19, 2017 These have always been my favorite style of chevron, I have only seen these sewn on field worn uniforms, hbt's, field jackets and jump jackets. I have always assumed they were made specifically for field wear with the extra durability of twill on twill, compared to embroidered on twill or wool. Most of the loose chevrons of this style I have seen usually have heavy thread remaining from from being removed from a field worn type uniform. Just my 2 cents. Great collection by the way and the tech varieties are hard to come by. I have a pair of the early war first sergeant chevrons with only two rockers which shows they were used prior to 1942 also. Desertrat Posted December 19, 2017 Share #9 Posted December 19, 2017 I had the same thought.

patches Posted June 16, 2020 Share #11 Posted June 16, 2020 All these look remarkably similar to this rank on a Americal Div Tech 4 worn Khaki Shirt up in Japan during occupation (Photo from copper252 he describes them as Japanese Made).
