5307th Composite Group Impression

Good evening everybody,

I just have a few questions concerning what would be a basic loadout, of uniform and equipment, for a member of the 5307th Composite Group, or "Merrill's Marauders. In other words, what would an official list of all supplies look like. What equipment would have been issued to them, and what personal items would they carry?

Specifically, I have questions regarding what seems to be a knit shirt that many of the men can be seen wearing in a number of photographs. It almost looks like a 5 button sweater, but that makes very little sense to me.I can put some links in below.

I know there are some refrences to very basic pieces of kit, but I really wanted to learn more about the equipment and uniforms of the Marauders. (Also any books on personal accounts would be fantastic!!) I really appreciate everything so much! Oh, also feel free to move this to it's proper section, couldn't find the spot I thought was right

Even in the hot climate, soldiers would wear these long underwear shirts. As the soldier sweat, the shirt would get wet. When a breeze came up, the wind against the wet would cool the body. We actually wore the white wool long underwear shirts in Saudi Arabia after the ground war ended for the same reason.
