kyhistorian01 Posted June 17, 2014 Share #1 Posted June 17, 2014 Here is a recent pick up though a friend - A 1918 dated BAR belt - any suggestions on cleaning up the metal butt rest on the belt or should I leave it as is?

Backtheattack Posted June 17, 2014 Share #5 Posted June 17, 2014 Would clean it only with oil, nothing else.
Big Al Posted June 18, 2014 Share #6 Posted June 18, 2014 If the corrosion does not come off with just a rag and oil, you can use brass wool which is softer that steel. You could even use 0000 steel wool. I use the steel wool routinely to clean rust stains from my Colonial Air Corp Survival knife and there is no damage to the finish.
