rusl4 Posted June 16, 2014 #1 Posted June 16, 2014 I found these 2 Minnie balls while relic hunting near Kennesaw Mountain (on private property with lifelong permission). The bullets were in a row about 1 foot by 20 feet where a tree had fallen and rotted away. I didn't notice until I was home that 2 of them had been shot together with one entering the tree and then another entering right behind it. One of them still retains wood. Thought you might find it interesting.
SergeantMajorGray Posted June 16, 2014 #6 Posted June 16, 2014 Nice find I've been wanting to get into metal detecting.
rusl4 Posted June 16, 2014 Author #7 Posted June 16, 2014 I really enjoy it even if I don't find anything.
rclay49 Posted June 18, 2014 #9 Posted June 18, 2014 great finds. you're lucky to have that permission. i hear metal detecting can become "addicting"
Brig Posted June 18, 2014 #11 Posted June 18, 2014 I love these kinds of Civil War finds...especially when you find the two opposing rounds that collided in the air...really poignant reminders of the war
rusl4 Posted June 19, 2014 Author #12 Posted June 19, 2014 Yes rclay49 it is addicting, when you dig up something and know that your the first person to see the relic is a rush, to hold it in your hand is really a cool feeling.
dag Posted June 19, 2014 #13 Posted June 19, 2014 Awesome! Thanks for the post (I enjoy seeing anything Civil War...).
4th Miss Cav Posted June 24, 2014 #14 Posted June 24, 2014 A rare find, I have only found one in 30 years of hunting. I have a 58 that was hit from behind by a 54. Found them at Port Hudson LA about 10 years ago. There was some serious lead flying. It sometimes makes me wonder how anybody survived in some of those battles.
jgawne Posted June 25, 2014 #15 Posted June 25, 2014 these are very cool, however I suspect that the vast majority of collision bullets are actually one bullet hitting another than has come to rest.
katieony Posted June 26, 2014 #17 Posted June 26, 2014 Excellent and rare find! Congratulations! Mike
rusl4 Posted July 8, 2014 Author #18 Posted July 8, 2014 For those who may be interested, I have posted these For Sale in the misc. section of the FS section.
