vintageproductions Posted June 15, 2014 Share #1 Posted June 15, 2014 While walking around one of the antique markets this morning ran across a dealer who found this in a estate sale to a WWII AAF B-17 crew member. The estate sale people were told it was part of a B-17, but would like to know for sure. Anyone know for sure? Thanks in advance.
Garandomatic Posted June 15, 2014 Share #2 Posted June 15, 2014 I can't match it up to any pictures of top or ball turrets on B-17s or B-24s, but it sure screams WWII Air Force, and since it calls for "link belts," it HAS to be gun related. Very cool. I have a small piece of a ball turret that has that same color on the inside of it.

5thwingmarty Posted June 15, 2014 Share #6 Posted June 15, 2014 Ball turrets were the same in the B-17 and B-24. The ones in the B-24 just had a different mounting system so they could be raised and lowered.
Bugme Posted June 15, 2014 Share #7 Posted June 15, 2014 Who'd ever think that a chunk of metal with a few tags could make such a very cool piece of history?
Garandomatic Posted June 16, 2014 Share #8 Posted June 16, 2014 Makes sense, all of the pictures I found were either front or side shots of the turrets.
