LanceG Posted June 12, 2014 Share #1 Posted June 12, 2014 Found this and thought it was pretty unique. US Maritime Service officer's combination cover with badge of the American President Lines. APL was an agent for the War Shipping Administration that operated Liberty and Victory ships. Nice example from the forgotten service.
ShooterMcGavin Posted July 8, 2015 Share #2 Posted July 8, 2015 Many years ago these uniforms were common with all shipping companies, not just during the war. Up through the 1970's companies like Moore-McCormack Lines, U.S. Lines, American Export Lines and even tanker companies like Mobil Oil had khaki uniforms that the deck officers were required to wear when in pilotage or in port conducting official business. This practice has fallen to the wayside in modern times.
MattS Posted July 9, 2015 Share #3 Posted July 9, 2015 Great cap! I can picture some lean, salty captain wearing that.
senhoragua Posted August 13, 2015 Share #4 Posted August 13, 2015 Here's a variant of the cap badge in metal: When I was more into the hobby, I did a small write up on APL here: http://hawsepipe.blogspot.com/2009/07/american-president-lines.html
