Sabrejet Posted June 9, 2014 Share #1 Posted June 9, 2014 This articulated Autocar COE Red Cross "Clubmobile" was parked in the square at Ste Marie-du-Mont, just inland from Utah Beach. The vehicle was covered with autographs of returning US vets. A nice touch!

Sabrejet Posted June 9, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted June 9, 2014 The magnificent ornate and famous church tower at Ste Marie-du-Mont, used by the Germans as an observation post overlooking Utah Beach on D-Day, but fortunately not "decapitated" by allied gunners like so many others were! kies99 Posted June 9, 2014 Share #9 Posted June 9, 2014 NIce! Would've been better if they signed inside, but nice regardless!
Sabrejet Posted June 9, 2014 Author Share #10 Posted June 9, 2014 Speaking of autographs...here's another take on it. A British collector friend had them to sign the lining of his A2 jacket. Nice!
Sabrejet Posted June 10, 2014 Author Share #11 Posted June 10, 2014 Here's another variation of the theme. We went to a private ceremony honouring 82nd airborne vet Mr Jack Schlagel of NY, 91 years young! After the ceremony, Mr Schlagel was invited to add his signature to the underside of a Jeep hood which had also been signed by various other vets! easterneagle87 Posted June 10, 2014 Share #12 Posted June 10, 2014 Any other pictures of Mr. Schlagel? That is awesome. Do I see a POW medal on his jacket as well? What an incredible experience!

Yes I have. In fact I have quite a few pics of US vets which I took at the private ceremonies I was fortunate enough to attend. I'll probably compile a thread which features them together, so watch this space! As a matter of interest, Mr Schlagel was stood right behind President Obama in one of the "big" ceremonies. Sabrejet Posted June 10, 2014 Author Share #16 Posted June 10, 2014 Note the guy in the orange jacket....that's the forum's General Apathy! ( Sorry for the slightly fuzzy photo...there was a short, sharp downpour which fogged the lens!)
manayunkman Posted June 10, 2014 Share #17 Posted June 10, 2014 He looks like a body guard that guy in the orange jacket. And Mr Schlegel looks great.
