Special operations DUI

Hi all

Im hoping to aquire some Genuine Special operations insignia ( Delta force ), is there any pointers on DUI?? If any collectors could post any info/pictures, I would really appreciate it.

I am sure there's an online insignia reference somewhere. But what you see on a dress uniform may very well not be the same as in the field. You would be hard-pressed to find someone wearing the insignia in theatre. It has happened, but not often. May have to exercise the "grain of salt" option when viewing photos, I imagine.

It is my understanding that Delta Force does not have any insignia unique to them. I was told that they were told not to have anything made up for themselves especially with the wording "Delta Force". This was strictly forbidden as their existence wasn't even being acknowledged by the Army. They wear the normal military qualification insignia on their dress uniforms (airborne wing, CIB, firearm qualification badges, HALO, pathfinder, etc.) with ribbons. Their shoulder patch is or was the Special Operations Command patch & Airborne tab with either the Special Forces tab or Ranger tab as they also recruit people directly from the Ranger Battalions. So the patches and pins you see with the bayonet through a lighting bolt triangle aren't real.

I have a couple of images of what I assume is a delta force guy, as you say, standard badges etc.didnt think for one minute the dagger badge was real LOL. I've managed to get some Special operations DUI badges, and also a SO arm badge. Be interested to know what the wing and badges are??

One does not have to be SF or Ranger tabbed to serve in "Delta".

If you are assigned to Combat Applications Group (or CAG), elements of either CAG, or parts of JSOC, but in the Army, you wear the red arrowhead for USASOC. The only other SSI is the Joint Intelligence Agency, JSOC. The DUI is, too, for USASOC. There is a new Airborne flash and oval for the troopers. No more green Class-As. This could be the uniform of a Master Sergeant at USASOC headquarters, not simply from CAG. He's wearing the older USASOC DUI; there's a newer design now. Not that you needed to know, but recently in 2013 a new crest and SSI was added to the USASOC command. Asymmetric Warfare Group has their own SSI and crest.

The insignia is a Fairbairn Sykes dagger, just like the patch in the picture above, with upswept red wings forming a spearhead to remember the FSSF, which also symbolizes the unit's role as the aviation element of USASOC. The Aviation ultramarine blue shield, black border makes it a bit unique. The USASOAC DUI is worn by all Soldiers assigned to the HQs, SIMO, TAPO, SOATB, and the UFD. It's motto "VOLARE OPTIMOS," "To Fly the Best".

The headquarters, which is authorized roughly 135 personnel, so quite a few DUI are issued. Subordinate units totaling more than 3,300 personnel include the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), the USASOC Flight Detachment, the Systems Integration Management Office, the Special Operations Aviation Training Battalion and the Technology Application Projects Office: they all have their own DUI.
