Cobrahistorian Posted January 18, 2011 Share #5 Posted January 18, 2011 Look like the type Pappy Boyington flew?! Boyington flew P-40s and F4Us.
Chris_B Posted January 19, 2011 Share #6 Posted January 19, 2011 Quite true; Boyington only flew a plane the US Army flew because he was in the American Volunteer Group and they had P-40s. Well, they had the H81 export variant of the P-40 at first and P-40s later but you say tomatoe I say tomahto...Boyington didn't fly for the AAF or AAC in either case! The P-38 wasn't used by the USMC or AVG, dlp797. You may be thinking of Richard Ira Bong, the US's ace of aces in WWII, who flew P-38s in the PTO and was pretty famous, himself. And his girl was a dish, if I may be permitted the observation
