MattS Posted May 30, 2014 Share #2 Posted May 30, 2014 Nope, maroon berets are worn. I suspect the daylight, camera, and your TV altered the apparent shade. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:USAF_Pararescue_Beret.jpg
QED4 Posted May 30, 2014 Share #3 Posted May 30, 2014 Combat Controllers and Special Tactics Officers wear scarlet berets, that is probably what you saw. It wouldn't be the first time the pictures in a TV show did not match what they were saying.
Manny C Posted July 28, 2014 Share #4 Posted July 28, 2014 Currently the USAF is authorized 7 different berets. It is hard at times to keep up wit all of them. Her is the current CCT beret.
flyboy53 Posted December 16, 2014 Share #5 Posted December 16, 2014 Really, it's not hard. Just remember blue means Security Forces, maroon are PJs, red are Combat Controllers. black are Tactical Air Control Parties, pewter are Special Operations Weather and sage green are SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape). Security Forces began wearing the blue beret and qualification badge in 1975 largely because of the actions of a Gen. Thomas Sadler but the special headgear was already being worn by Strategic Air Command Elite Guards from the early 1960s. A lighter color of blue beret was worn by Combat Security Police in the mid-1960s under Operation Safe Side. That beret had a flash with a falcon that is the basis of the current SF beret flash. Air Force Combat Comptrollers also wore a blue beret at one point and there was a degree of tension between them and Security Police in the late 70s and early 80s because Combat Controllers believed that SPs stole there beret, but in reality, SPs wore blue ones first. For those of us who earned the blue SF beret, there is a deep pride.

Manny C Posted December 16, 2014 Share #7 Posted December 16, 2014 Security forces are dark blue. They resemble black but their is a distinct color difference when you hold the two next to each other....
