What were the bridge piers used for? Demolition training?

We visited the last B-bunker between Poland and the West Wall.

The bunker was buried in 1994 by the U.S. Army.

The dome was destroyed.

Nice photos of an old training area. I never made it there. Spent some time at Campo Pond at Hanau, but mostly the Friedberg (Hessen) training area then Wildflicken, Hohenfels and Graf training areas. I believe the piers were for the engineers to practice building bridges rather than blowing them up.

The Heinrich position is opposite the dome bunker.

The Heinrich position with their trenches very reminiscent of the positions of the 1.WK in France and Belgium
