hink441 Posted May 18, 2014 Share #1 Posted May 18, 2014 I recently found these survival pencil flares. The pencil is marked US Navy BUWEPS MK31 MOD 0. Projector signal, surface. Lot #86 TESCO 12-67-104. Made by the Eastern Specialty Co. I think they were made in 12-67.
hink441 Posted May 23, 2014 Author Share #2 Posted May 23, 2014 Apparently there is no love for the lowly MK31 MOD0 pencil Flare.
1SG_1st_Cav Posted May 23, 2014 Share #3 Posted May 23, 2014 I have three flare pens, but no flares! Anyone know of a source? Thanks! Danny
hink441 Posted May 23, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted May 23, 2014 I believe there is a company called Tru-Flare that sells useable similar cartridges.
agate hunter Posted June 8, 2014 Share #5 Posted June 8, 2014 Very cool, I just got a complete navy set still in the original packaging, with the whole USN survival vest with medical kit, general survival kit, and USAF survival knife. All 1967 dated. Was told it was a Marine pilot's vest.
Insaniac Posted June 14, 2014 Share #6 Posted June 14, 2014 Just picked up an SRU-21/P Aviators Survival Vest with these flares marked DOM 12-72. Vest is 100% complete (except for S&W .38 cal) with working PRC-90 in what looks like new condition and working strobe with original battery. hink441 Posted June 14, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted June 14, 2014 That is a cool looking set. Looks like a handmade (ordie tape) bracket for the cartridges!
Insaniac Posted June 14, 2014 Share #8 Posted June 14, 2014 There's a brass grommet in the end for the lanyard so I suspect it may have been manufactured that way. Pete

hink441 Posted June 15, 2014 Author Share #11 Posted June 15, 2014 It is manufacture tape! OK, still looks like 100 mph OD ordnance tape.
Insaniac Posted June 15, 2014 Share #12 Posted June 15, 2014 Probably is but they all seem to be made that way. Here's one from online like the one I have. Pete
