I went to Normandy this week-end and, driving on a small road near Valognes (Cotentin peninsula), found this small part of the road. Hedgerrow hell !!!!

Great pictures Eric. Thank you for taking the time to post them.

Are you near the LaFiere Manoir and bridge? My Grandfather fought with the 505th and was killed there. He was killed at the hill above the Manoir.

Chris-

I was there a couple of months ago. Given what transpired here, this location impacted me just as much as Omaha Beach did. Here is the bridge (from the side the Americans attacked from):

And here is looking down on it from the hill (from the American side):

Kurt,

Those are some beautiful pictures. The scenery looks so peaceful now. I get a lot of different emotions when I see these great pics. So beautiful and yet so tragic in my family's case.

Thank you so much for posting these pics.

I love Normandy and been there plusieurs fois.

First time I went I was 5 while we lived in Paris.

The last time I went was in 1982.

I would love to live there before I leave this earth.

This is a great thread and hope there is much more to come.

Thank you for starting it.

Lloyd thank you for the invite but where ever I go there is a bevy of women who follow.

None of them want to see France from the back of a tank. :(

What I could do is send them off on their own for half a day and I could spend a couple of hours with you on the down low. ;)

Thanks Kurt was it a cold day in summer?

Chateau de Fontenay near Azeville Battery, who saw heavy fighting from 3rd Battallion, 22th Infantry Regiment 4th Infantry Division mid June.
Sergent William Pope from L Company earned Silver Star that day attacking this castle

I love Norman architecture so don't stop.

Poor Chateau de Fontenay.

It still looks sturdy and ready for a fix.

Hink441 I had a cousin in the 505 too. He was KIA in Nijmegen close to the Waal River Bridge. He has been written about in a good many books.
