Next is a nice Fire Police helmet..unfortunately the liner was yanked a long time ago...maybe even when he brought it back.

..there's several German post cards...along with these plastic, leather trimmed bags that he labeled for "stamps" stationary", etc....some faint markings in the corners caught my eye..maker's mark and what would appear to be an RBn number:

This map case is maker marked and dated 1938, and is near mint except for the holes punched in it.

These were wrapped in a hankie...insignia from an NSDAP visor and a one-winged Army visor eagle. Unfortunately all the pins have been broken off....but it occurred to me.....

..the pins were broken because they'd been attached to the map case...the pins match up with the holes like this:

it's obvious there was another eagle above the cockade and one to the left...not sure what was on the lower left corner because there's only one hole.....maybe in time some other items will come out of the basement where these have been the past 70 years....

I thought the same thing when I saw the holes. Was very common for the soldiers to decorate holsters and leather cases with pins and rank insignias.

Nice additions

Right. I had another one years ago where the outlines where clear as day i.e. Police cap badger...I'm going to try to put the things back on, just not sure how.

Always enjoy seeing what GI's brought home and often wondered the circumstances that led up to the GI picking up the artifact..
