Nice patch. Will have to do some digging, but don't think I've seen it before. What size is it? Can we see the back? Jeffro

They had two cruises , probably changed ships as I know they also changed their patch design to a totally different version , second design was a shield divided in half from top left to lower right, dice one in each section , top right lower left , motto scroll at bottom of shield , "Jamais Au Dupe Une Chance E' Gal "

I have several emblems of various units that had two totally different emblems for the same unit , for what ever reason when they went on more than one cruise the had a different patch made , possibly even went on different Carriers so this may be the reason for the CVE-81 cruise info

True Johnny. However, the shield design with dice was actually the first design dating to 1943. The patch posted here is the second design approved in May, 1945. According to James Dresser's book on escort carriers and most of the material found on the internet, the squadron was aboard the Rudyerd Bay from Sep, 1944-Mar, 1945. The only squadrons I can find that were aboard the Salamaua were VC-87 from Nov, 1944-Feb 1945 & VC-70 from May, 1945-Sep, 1945. Jeffro
