Spoke to a buddy yesterday. He called stating he found a "beret and some pins".He described it and wanted to know what it was.He later sent a picture and it all looked good to me.He stumbles into a lot of odds and ends. Not bad for $10 and tax.Im picking it up later today.

Nice haul. Those two badges at the bottom are the icing, the beret is the cake.

Hi Doyler,

What a great group of SVN made pieces. I like it all , the Viet made Navy boards, NAG beret, Riverine beret badge, and the SVN Navy beercan. Great addition to your collection. Congrats.

THANKS

I asked if there were any other items.Thought there may have been some insignias or patches, or a jacket. Often he will over look items in going through the shop(s).He finds some great stuff.I would have asked the person at the shop where it came from and if there were other items.May have to make a call.;-)

Great beret Ron....Vietnam berets seem to be coming out of the woodwork this week.

THANKS

I was thinking the same thing. Just picked it up and it looks better in hand.

Backside of shoulder boards.Looks like the Vietnamese tailor or retailers name stamped in red ink.

Looks like you took pic of boards upside down. Very nice, by the way.

THICH-PHU?

Thanks Terry

Was a unexpected find and glad to be able to pick it up from my friend.

I didnt take the time to rotate the photo.

Here it is.

Are the boards South Vietnamese or French?

They do look French... I had a very similar set of boards. Unfortunately, I did not keep pictures.

Nice score Doyler !

I think the boards are South Vietnamese / Republic of Vietnam Navy.

The enlisted personnel had a pattern of boards that were similar to the French style, and were worn through the 1970s.

That the boards were Vietnamese tailor made makes me think they are more likely Vietnamese rather than French.

I agree. From viewing other boards I also believe them SVN.I have found officers style made the same with the white backing.I can see the heavy French influence in the design as well. Thanks for commenting.
