3505 Posted May 13, 2014 Share #1 Posted May 13, 2014 Hi all, looking for help with IDing the 12 AF SSI. It is not the "standard" issue nor is it bullion. I beleive the service coat it came on is from when the 12 AF was with USAFE (1951-1957). Any help appreciated. Jeff
Nack Posted May 13, 2014 Share #2 Posted May 13, 2014 Interesting patch! Those numerals do look pretty German.
firefighter Posted May 13, 2014 Share #3 Posted May 13, 2014 Cool design and patch. Is it on an AF blue jacket?
KurtA Posted May 13, 2014 Share #4 Posted May 13, 2014 I'd say German-made. The construction just doesn't "look" Japanese-made. And as previously stated, the style of the numerals seems German. Here's a fully embroidered Japanese-made example I have. It's interesting how they gave the inside of the wings a "torii gate" look. firefighter Posted May 14, 2014 Share #7 Posted May 14, 2014 Very Nice. I like the older AF jackets with SSI's.
KurtA Posted May 14, 2014 Share #8 Posted May 14, 2014 That is a great coat with an outstanding patch. Is the background of the patch in a shade that is similar to the blue shade of the coat?
firefighter Posted May 14, 2014 Share #9 Posted May 14, 2014 That is a great coat with an outstanding patch. Is the background of the patch in a shade that is similar to the blue shade of the coat? Looks a little darker too me.Anything in the pockets?
3505 Posted May 15, 2014 Author Share #10 Posted May 15, 2014 The blue is darker on the ssi and nope, unfortunately nothing in the pockets. There is a three ribbon bar - just hadn't put it back on yet after getting the coat dry-cleaned. Jeff
3505 Posted August 9, 2015 Author Share #11 Posted August 9, 2015 Here is the ribbon bar as it was attached (sewn onto jacket). Jeff
dilligaff Posted August 10, 2015 Share #12 Posted August 10, 2015 Did'nt look it up but believe the middle ribbon is for Berlin Occupation.
3505 Posted August 10, 2015 Author Share #13 Posted August 10, 2015 From left to right as you look at ribbon bar - National Defense Service, Army of Occupation, and Good Conduct. The Airmen who wore the uniform (I'm assuming it was him because the ribbon bar was sewn onto coat) has positioned of the GC and NDS on the wrong ends. Where was his flight sergeant!?
