Patchcollector Posted May 10, 2014 Share #1 Posted May 10, 2014 Hi all, I'm thinking of purchasing this wing but wanted to get some opinions first.I don't know much about the theatre made pieces,so I wanted to ask: Are these authentic WW2 British made? Thanks!
rustywings Posted May 12, 2014 Share #2 Posted May 12, 2014 Any opinions, feelings or ideas on Patchcollector's posted Aircrew badge? I believe a little closer and clearer image of the front center piece and the back of the wing would likely help me lean one way or the other regarding authenticity. skypilot6670 Posted May 12, 2014 Share #3 Posted May 12, 2014 Very similar to J.R.Guant wings in More Silver Wings page 121.I think if these were British made they would have been hallmarked and or maker marked. They look commonwealth to me and the back looks cast (edge pillowed, some cavities) I agree with Russ better photos would help. My opinion they are good. Fraternally Mike

Patchcollector Posted May 12, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted May 12, 2014 Thanks very much Russ and Mike. The photos I have posted are all I have, and are from the seller.Mike that photo in the link that you posted is a great view.I'm guessing that these are silver plated brass.I want to start branching out and getting some "theatre made" wings but I do not feel well enough acquainted with them as yet to weed out the good from the bad.I will bookmark the link posted in this thread and use that excellent website as a reference point. Also,it's nice to be able to ask the experts here, I really appreciate the help. graham Posted May 12, 2014 Share #6 Posted May 12, 2014 Silver plated brass is the way to go. I would also say the lack of a maker mark is in its favour. Most repro I have seen are marked. Graham
