arrowman2012 Posted April 30, 2014 Share #1 Posted April 30, 2014 I have in my conflict knife collection a Pal 36 which a vet evidently carried through the WW2 pacific campaign. The sheath is inscribed with all the battle zones he passed through along with some great theatre work.. After Tulagi S.I is inscribed Panika R.I. I can identify all the actions except the listed Panika R.I. at the list end. Wondering if any one could throw some light on this I cannot find a ref anywhere for Panika R.I. Any comment appreciated. Bluejacket Posted April 30, 2014 Share #2 Posted April 30, 2014 Arrowman, It's Banika, in the Russell Islands. I think there were CB units stationed there. Bluejacket
arrowman2012 Posted April 30, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted April 30, 2014 Many thanks Bluejacket...no doubt you have solved this one. Looking at the inscriptions on the sheath Bora Bora/New Caledonia/Espiritu Santo/Guadalcanal/ Tulagi S I Banika R I (not a P) / Pearl Harbour..... Indications are maybe one of the Seabees 3rd detachment Navy construction. I so wish this knife could talk its story.. Thanks again Tony ( Melbourne Australia)
