Hi Guys. Found this in my girlfriend's father's garage.

I know nothing about these old cans. But I think this has a great look.

A few questions.

1. What era is this from? It is marked "G" so I assume it is for gasoline. Where would this be used and for what vehicles? Is this missing any pieces?

2. I've spent a ton of time cleaning it and it still smells like gas. I would like to display it in my house. Any tricks for getting rid of the gas smell?

Thanks guys!

(the side I didn't photograph has the x but only "G" no "US")

Cool. thanks!

The cap can't be screwed on when the nozzle is placed upside down in the can.

Is this normal? How were these stored full if the nozzle couldnt be sealed inside like a modern can?

Also, any ideas on how to get the gas smell out? I've tried lots of soap and water with no luck.

Thanks!

The gas nozzle, (Donkey Dick) didn't fit inside when the lid was on. Probably why most of them were lost. Have you tried filling the can with something like kitty litter with baking soda, to remove the gas smell?

And I haven't tried kitty litter yet. Might give it a try.

the bottom of your can translates as

Interstate Commerce Commission-51 (51 is a regulation line item)

Radio Steel (manufacturer)

20 (20 gauge steel)- 5 (5 gallon capacity) 51 (year 1951) 20-5-51

G=Gas
