When I read the first threads in this topic I remember a bayonet which was with the uniforms and equipment I received from a vet of the 330th regiment 83th division. I didn`t collect german items so I forgott it - and searched for it after reading here. So, here it is:

It`s a World War I 84/98 bayonet, sawback was cut out after 1917, firm is Gottlieb Hammesfahr, Solingen-Foche, it`s a second model with "fire-protection" at the grip. It`s a short model bayonet which was used in World War II by second line troops. Received no informations where he could get this item. As I always say, each new item in a collection bring with it new questions. The 83rd division had a long fighting way in Europe, but with second line troops they deal twice times, first in France with the capitulation of the german General Botho Elster, who`s troops where mainly second line troops, harbor guards, security regiments, flak troops without cars. The second time they deal with last stand units was near Mageburd in April 45.
