I don't know anything about unis markings.  Are they always supposed to have the half circle around them?

Different divisions used different markings with different geometric shapes. Try to check out here:

Numbering system had been well researched as regards the 4th and 5th Mar.Div.

Does that seem correct?

Thanks

All divisions had some sort of a UNIS mark. To me it seems that the 3rd, 4th, and 5th used them the most. 1st MarDiv typically practiced hand camouflaging. The 2nd MarDiv used tac marking shapes. Very rarely do you 6th MarDiv UNIS marks. They too practiced a lot of camouflaging on gear!

You should post those canteens you’re looking at cause you don’t hardly ever see those! I personally only know of two 5th MarDiv marked canteens!

Gear Fanatic

I have a 4th marked one that is marked on the bottom and is a ww1 canteen cover, I don’t know if that is an anomaly or not, I will try to post it in the next couple weeks. I bought it at a glee market not knowing it was marked I thought it was a regular old canteen cover

I've been dormant from here for a long time, but a recent project is pulling me back lol.

Here's my contribution, traced in Photoshop for clarity. 112 is 5th MarDiv Signal Company [within Div HQ Bn]:

A recent addition.

I’ve had my eyes on this set for awhile now and finally got to add it to the collection. This set belongs to Warren J. Kale. He joined in early 1943 at the age of 18. He was wounded during the fight for Saipan. A piece of shell fragment hit him in the right hip during the fight.

I had a lower pack with the same marking on the front but it was in yellow paint and it belonged to a man in the 2nd Marine Division

Probably the only one I’ve ever seen in hand, and not in period footage. May post more later.
