Buckshot329 Posted April 16, 2014 Share #1 Posted April 16, 2014 Hello all This summer (July-August) I will be visiting the US again and I want to start planning everything early. Since it's always fun digging around different kind of stores or antique markets I was wondering if anyone could recommend militaria dealers or antique dealers worth a look in the places I will be staying which are: around Candor, NC Manhattan, KS New Orleans. Thanks to anyone that might be able to give me some information.
shrapneldude Posted April 16, 2014 Share #2 Posted April 16, 2014 Candor is about an hour to Fayetteville NC -- well worth the trip to go to Tarbridge's shop and check out what he's got for sale!
Nkomo Posted April 17, 2014 Share #3 Posted April 17, 2014 Candor is about an hour to Fayetteville NC -- well worth the trip to go to Tarbridge's shop and check out what he's got for sale! Couldn't agree with Dan more. Tarbridge's shop is a stop I never miss when I go to Fayetteville, NC. Great stuff and a great guy.
Buckshot329 Posted April 17, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted April 17, 2014 Thanks for the suggestion, will surely be checking that one out. Am actually in Raeford anyways so I'll be much closer as well
Kadet Posted April 18, 2014 Share #5 Posted April 18, 2014 Yikes...from a tourism perspective, I would say New Orleans is definitely the highlight of your trip Agree about Robert's shop in Fayettenam...worth a trip. You can also check out the special operations museum, which is off base. The 82nd ABN Division has a nice museum as well, but you have to get on to Fort Bragg to see it... kcmo Posted April 18, 2014 Share #6 Posted April 18, 2014 Nothing for military dealers or antique shops in Manhattan, KS. Mostly thrift stores for college students and only a few of those. Closest militaria store is in Leavenworth, KS which is over 2 hours away. Besides Kansas State University and Aggieville (bar area for college students) not much in Manhattan except normal shopping. You could go to Fort Riley to their 1st Infantry Division museum and Calvary Museum ( Free unless something has changed) about 15 minutes away. Eisenhower's Presidential library is in Abilene, KS which has items of his. (Cost involved) about an hour away. Otherwise some auctions and estate sales in the area on the weekend. gwb123 Posted April 19, 2014 Share #7 Posted April 19, 2014 If you do go to Leavenworth, KS, there is a US Army Museum on the post dedicated to the Army of the West, covering the period of 1820 to 1912. Kansas City of course features the National World War One museum. I never found much in the way of militaria in New Orleans unless you stumble into a gunshow. You do have the National World War Two museum. Right across the street is a Civil War museum with limited hours, but supposedly an excellent collection. Further up rive in Baton Rouge is a restored destroyer or destroyer escort moored next to the Mississippi river.
5thwingmarty Posted April 19, 2014 Share #8 Posted April 19, 2014 If you want to go to Tarbridges, make sure you call in advance and speak with someone to confirm they will be open. I was down that way for work this week and thought I would check it out. I called several times before I headed there but no one answered, but I took a chance and went anyhow. Got there and they were closed and they do not list any set hours they are open. Don't waste time driving there if they don't answer the phone before you head that way. I have been planning a trip there, and would hate to show up and find it closed. I'm only an hour and a half away, but still... This one is in the same area: http://www.warpathmilitaria.com/ It has a good online review. Has anyone been there?
wildcat123 Posted April 19, 2014 Share #10 Posted April 19, 2014 There is at least one surplus store in Junction City (downtown) if you are in to modern militaria. I have found stuff there from time to time, looks like a lot of Ft Riley soldiers sell there stuff there. Abilene has a number of antique stores and the Eisenhower center (as previously mentioned. It is worth the trip if you have time... all interstate and easy to find.
Garandomatic Posted April 19, 2014 Share #11 Posted April 19, 2014 I haven't been to Warpath since 1996 or so. I was in HS and visiting my brother. Shortly after, I had a girlfriend to take care of my spending money and then my brother moved. Never been to another militaria shop, so I can't compare, but he is a member and I was impressed when I was 16!

5thwingmarty Posted April 20, 2014 Share #13 Posted April 20, 2014 Thanks Robert. Sorry I missed you. I thought you might have gone to the show in Tennessee or taken Good Friday off. Hopefully my work will bring me back down your way again soon. Marty
Buckshot329 Posted April 22, 2014 Author Share #14 Posted April 22, 2014 Writing down Robert's information, thanks for the tip everyone seems like a shop I should surely check out, since I will be in Raeford for a week I don't think that should be a problem either. As far as the suggestions for Kansas go, this is actually my second trip there and I have done most of the suggestions (such as the Eisenhower museum, which was very good if you ask me!). Also did a tour of Fort Riley with someone who works there and visited the museums which were (again) excellent. I haven't been to Ft. Leavenworth so that might be a good option for this trip. Will still have lots of things to do anyways since I will be visiting to some WW2 vets in the area, so the dealers would have been icing on the cake for that one. Thanks all for your suggestions though, hope they keep coming in
wildcat123 Posted April 22, 2014 Share #15 Posted April 22, 2014 I think there are some nice antique stores downtown Leavenworth if you make that trek. Also is the Collector's Bookstore downtown, they are a major retailer of "hobby" books, with many militaria titles.
Buckshot329 Posted July 29, 2014 Author Share #16 Posted July 29, 2014 I was at Tarbridge store yesterday and had a great time! Might very well be the best shop I have been in so far. Robert is a great guy and has an incredible collection as well. If you are ever close to Fayetteville, North Carolina make sure to make a stop at 960 country club drive and arrive early in the morning because you will need the time! vintageproductions Posted July 29, 2014 Share #17 Posted July 29, 2014 There is also a militaria shop in downtown Leavenworth. Can't remember the name but did real well buying in there.

Overlooked Military Antiques and Surplus? I've been in there a couple times, really nice people there. Buckshot, here's the information on Overlooked. 406 Delaware St. Leavenworth, KS 66048 Phone: 913-758-1686 Store Hours: Monday thru Saturday 10:30-6:00 Sunday 12:00 to 4:00 If you're still in the Fayetteville area I would highly suggest stopping by and seeing Ed Hicks at Warpath Militaria. He's a great guy too. Just make sure and let him know your coming! Glad to hear you got to see Tarbridge. I've been to Fayetteville twice and never stopped by his place and have sincerely regretted it. Anyone who dedicates themselves to the preservation of the purple heart like he does is swell in my book!

I actually went by Ed Hicks and he had a great store as well! Will be going to New Orleans tomorrow, so if any new suggestions turn up for that place I would love to hear them. I wasn't at Tarbridge long enough to spend all the $$ so I have a little more to go
