I recently found a Signal Corps BA-30 battery wooden crate in a local farm.

After a search on the internet I found that the BA-30 battery was one of the most commonly used batteries in the signal corps.

This particular crate has as type: Navy type C. What is a BA-30 battery Navy type C and are there differences between this type and other BA-30 batteries? I did find a topic on BA-30 batteries on the forum, but there is nothing about the Navy type C.

I'm also curious how much this crate is worth and are these crates rare or are these a common type to find?

Here are some picture of the crate:

I believe the BA-30 was the Army nomenclature while the Navy called them the Type C Battery, both indicating the same item...

The BA-30 was commonly used in field telephone sets, TL122(.) flashlights, G519 Bicycle headlights etc...

Great box... Just let me know if you want to let it go...

Cheers,

Thank you for the answer.

While this is the navy nomenclature, does that mean that these (Navy type C) crates weren't used by the army or was it common to use both in army and navy?

Johan, the crate was found in a relatives farm which makes it a bit special, so it will stay in my collection.

BA-30 and Navy Type C are the same thing and reflected on the crate, think of it as a joint Army/Navy item. The crate could have been for either service.

Thank you dustin and Johan for the quick answers!

FYI- The BA-30 is the military version of carbon-zinc "D" cell battery. The BA-3030 is the more modern military version of the alkaline "D" cell.

I was just posting some other flashlight stuff and I noticed this thread.  Here is a picture of a Navy BA-30 type C battery, It came in one of the gray single battery emergency lights that attached to life vests etc.  Like other BA-30 batteries it is a "D" size battery and not the BA-42 "C" size battery.
