USMC-RECON0321 Posted April 4, 2014 Share #6 Posted April 4, 2014 I don't like it at all. Appears to be a fantasy piece, Not to mention, Recon Marines don't advertise they're Recon for obvious reasons, nor did they wear helmets on missions / patrols. Troy USMC 2/2 Fox Co 0311 & 1st Recon Bn Delta Co. 0321. 1986 - 1995 (Desert Storm 90/91)US Army Long Range Surveillance Co F 425th INF ABN LRS Team 1-6 2003 - 2005 (Iraqi Freedom 03/04)
Brig Posted April 4, 2014 Share #7 Posted April 4, 2014 It has a blurb to Hathcock with total confirmed kills, Recon, Young Marines (a type of JROTC), etc...looks like someone just slapped a lot of random stuff on there. A Marine of the era wouldn't be putting the names of a bunch of well known Marines of the era on his helmet, all from different units, but more likely those of KIA's in his own unit, etc, etc. And agree, Recon is disciplined and wouldn't want to go around advertising who they were on their covers
Linedoggie Posted April 4, 2014 Share #8 Posted April 4, 2014 Fake likely done by a "Young Marine" in the 1980's after the Hathcock book came out.
Justin Posted April 5, 2014 Share #9 Posted April 5, 2014 I don't like it at all. Appears to be a fantasy piece, Not to mention, Recon Marines don't advertise they're Recon for obvious reasons, nor did they wear helmets on missions / patrols. Troy I agree, this is a bad one, and I mean a really bad one. Doesn't not look one bit period. Also a army helmet band on a Marine helmet? The helmet looks like it was put together last week and drew on yesterday. J
Beau-Brummel Posted April 5, 2014 Share #10 Posted April 5, 2014 I agree, this is a bad one, and I mean a really bad one. Doesn't not look one bit period. Also a army helmet band on a Marine helmet? The helmet looks like it was put together last week and drew on yesterday. J I agree entirely! This old growler's been doing the rounds on ebay for the last three or four months with no takers, truly horrible! Yours, Guy.
jim46 Posted April 6, 2014 Share #11 Posted April 6, 2014 Joseph T. Ward WAS a Marine sniper, and it looks like whoever decorated this helmet cover probably read his 1991 book Dear Mom: A Sniper’s Vietnam.
ArchangelDM Posted April 6, 2014 Share #12 Posted April 6, 2014 This piece tickles me , graffiti all by the same hand , no wear and tear. Shame , it's ruined a nice cover "Rise and rise again until lambs become lions." Always looking for ww2 USMC items, helmets and any camo'd items "thinking outside of the box" New website https://combatusedmilitaria.com
