TLHSS Posted April 2, 2014 Share #1 Posted April 2, 2014 I recently purchased a WWI grouping that has two tightly rolled pano photos. I would like to pay a professional to flatten them out for me, since the photo content has some historical significance (vs. monetary), and I don't want to screw it up (they are group solider shots from Camp Lusitania). I got one estimate at approximately $300.00 per photo. And they are small .... not yard-longs. I really want the conservation work to happen, but it's tough to justify that cost. Let me know what you think ... Thanks in advance ... Tim
Bob Hudson Posted April 2, 2014 Share #2 Posted April 2, 2014 Do a google search for flatten rolled photos and you'll find that you can do it yourself with some household items and patience: http://www.thefamilycurator.com/home/2013/7/9/photo-tutorial-how-to-relax-and-rehumidify-old-rolled-photog.html#.UzuN2q1dUVc is one example. If the paper is not too dry, I've had luck placing them between large sheets of glass (I used glass from large old photo frames).
