Now that I hopefully got your interest, here is what I found today. I went to a gun show about an hour away from home with two friends and one of the knife dealers had this and a couple of other badges on his table. By the halmark I thought itb was early and then after looking up a few things I now believe this is one of the first badges issued in 1949. Please let me know what you think.

Here is what wiki had to say,

The badge was first created in 1949 and was referred to as the "National Military Establishment Identification Badge." In 1950, the badge was renamed as "Department of Defense Identification Badge." On December 20, 1962 the badge was given its current name, Office of the Secretary of Defense Identification Badge.

Any knowledge is welcomed.

Thanks,

Terry

I think you might need to go to manufacturers records to be certain.

Here is my relic version, and is slightly domed, along with the latest mirror image badge for striking comparison.

I have no idea of the age of the older piece, but I would say we both have a couple of items to treasure.
