But I believe these USAAF personnel are wearing Marbles, the sheath being worn right is a signature Marbles type and a handle can be seen above the M1916 holster. Note what appears to be an open hole rivet design. I've looked at the Western Baby Sharks, but the sheath rivets/pommel are throwing me off. sactroop Posted March 30, 2022 Share #60 Posted March 30, 2022 I think the variety found on sheath snaps are much like that among most knife makers. One thing to keep in mind is that any custom work on a piece increases the cost. To minimize that manufactures order in quantity. Add to that, knife companies like Marbles, and Western weren't located closely to a lot of the supply centers in the U.S. at the time. While I can't produce old company order records, IMHO it would be a normal practice for companies to try and order their projected supplies in bulk to reduce costs. If you order a bunch of snaps with your company name on them for say the coming year and run out of them before that, it wouldn't surprise me if they hurried an order for plan snap to fill in the gap. I think this is more common on items intended for commercial sales. On military contract stuff I don't see much in the way of frills. Was in my grandfather's fishing gear that he passed to me in 1977. The brass collar is loose. Is there a way to tighten it all up? If so, can you recommend a service I can send it to? Leather dries out over time if not treated properly. As it dries out, the leather reduces in size creating the loose "brass collar". When it dries out it removs more than moisture, so don't just soak it in water. There are some techniques to restoring it, but again, it depends on its' current condition.
