Renegade Posted March 26, 2014 Share #1 Posted March 26, 2014 I found this recently in a antique store- A soldiers Memento for service on the Mexican Border 1916, First Minnesota Field Artillery. Listing all the names of the members of the company, Rank and in some cases his occupation. Frame is a bit rough but considering it probably sat in someones attic for most of its 100 year life. Renegade Posted March 26, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted March 26, 2014 I thought it was interesting, that it listed the cooks, mechanics, Horseshoer, saddler and musician's( I am assuming bugler's) of the company, I would be interested in knowing what Artillery pieces they may have been using and what vehicles they may have been using at that time?? Renegade Posted March 26, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted March 26, 2014 At The top of the frame is a signalman's semaphore guide (this is not part of the memento) and I would guess the original owner might have been a signalman in the company. Renegade Posted March 26, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted March 26, 2014 There was very little info on a quick web search of this unit, if anyone has anything to share I would be interested to hear.
GWS Posted March 26, 2014 Share #8 Posted March 26, 2014 I think these were all commercially made items meant to be sold to the individual soldiers or their troop. Thats a nice one from the Border War period. The one I have is very similar in graphics and lists every man in the outfit by occupation or rank. Look close at the bottom for tiny lettering with the makers name and location. Here's mine:
