Does anybody know which branch-of-service insignia would be correct for an officer (1st lieutenant) assigned to the Army Ground Forces?

It depends on an individual officer's Branch of Service. It could be any of them.

There's a 1958-68 version with a Army Green 44 flat edge, but haven't found image yet of one of those, the Continental Army Command era, (CONARC).

I just sold one of the CONARC patches, if you scroll through eBay the image might still be there

Was it a merrowed edge of a cut/flat edge, as it will be the 58-68 cut/flat edge we would need.
