I posted this badge here a few month ago. But cant find my topic.

In the last Topic we have come to the result it is a Mess Dress Badge.

This is a 1" Combat Patrol Badge made by H&H.

I found just one other Similar badge on the web - with the stars already addet.

Other 1" badges i found are with holes to add the stars seperatly.

The same on the 1" Navy/ Marine Corps Air Crew Badges - found one here on the forum with the stars already

addet (identified as Mess Dress) and i found one on the Web with holes for the stars (again identified as Mess Dress).

If you carefully examine the hinge on this particular H-H model, you'll see an attached loop. Generally you see these setups on sweetheart insignia, where a small chain would have been attached to link this pin to another piece of patriotic jewelry. That kind of jewelery setup is pretty common during the WWII period, and you can see many examples in the "Homefront" thread. That said, many of these H-H mini combat insignia are seen with nothing attached, and they meet spec. as a mess dress item. If you're a really hardcore type collector, I've also seen the same pin sometimes without the loop on the hinge. The example I have in my collection does have the loop. Never felt any real urgency to buy another example without it.
