KASTAUFFER Posted May 26, 2008 Share #1 Posted May 26, 2008 Once in a while an officially named Purple Heart turns up that is not a posthumous award. This is one of them. Pvt Francis Andrews served as a scout with the 142nd Infantry , 36th Infantry Division ( The T-Patchers ). He was a replacement , arriving in Europe in November 1944 . He endured 2 months of combat until he was wounded and captured on January 29th, 1945. He earned a CIB and a Purple Heart during that time. He spent the rest of the war in Stalag VA and VIIA until he was liberated . His Purple Heart is officially large machine engraved , is in the original shipping box , and is accompanied by the original engraving order from the PQMD.
