2nd ID 15th FA Med. Battalion service trucks and motorcycles circa 1938 to 1940 Ft. Sam Houston. Not sure the models of the trucks but would sure love to have one of the Indian bikes with the sidecar.

Salvage Sailor

Those are great pics......the pics by salvage sailor of the M-20 armoured cars is interesting...any idea of date...as they feature the side lockers and not standard WW2 mine racks ?

Regards

Lloyd

Aloha Lloyd,

The M-20 photo is circa 1951/52 prior to the establishment of Kagnew Station

Great pics! The 1920 motorcycle is a Harley too? Bikes are not my strongest point

Would that be the 2ID insignia painted in front of the 15th FA Med Bat marking on the door of the Dodge VC3??

Looking at the bumper of the other Dodge in the background, are those markings also applied to the front bumper??

Johan,

Yes it is. I have some other photo(s) that I will post shortly that shows it a little better. The front bumper just has text and not the insignia.

This original photo just sold on Ebay and I didn't get it. The photograph is from the album of a 7th Air Force photo officer: Two SAIPAN MPs on Harley Davidson WLA motorcycles pass P-47D Thunderbolt "Apple Jack" of the 19th Fighter Squadron, being serviced, while P-47D 42-75372 sits in the background.7-7346

The photo was taken during and after the construction of the air base at Saipan. The base was built by the 804th Engineer Battalion, Aviation. The 318th Fighter Group (Republic P-47 Thunderbolts)and the 6th Night Fighter Group (Northrop P-61 Black Widows) flew from the base. Interestingly, the P-47s flew to Saipan from an aircraft carrier. A number of Lockheed F-5A (the photo-recon version of the P-38) Lightnings were also attached to the 318th. These long range F-5As routinely flew 8-hour 1500-mile missions to Truk and Iwo Jima.

I once owned and did a frame off restoration of a 1942 Dodge WC-53 Carryall. As a consequence I used to pick up photos of Carryalls in service when I could find them. Here is one of them. I'm not sure of the date or the location but given the bumper markings I think this truck was part of the Air Transport Command, Alaskan Division sometime after 7/1/44.

Nice legs, huh?

Regards,

Charlie

I thought I would post this one. Sorry, don't have a scanner and taking pics of pics not my bag, but here goes. Found this in an antique store recently very cheap. I liked it because I thought it had it all, the jeep, the Thompson, an early Parsons pre M41 field jacket, the 1917A1 helmet and if that is not enough, a great Coca Cola sign in the background. If there was a train on the tracks, I think it would appeal to every collector everywhere.

Here are some that I believe were from around the time of one of the manuvers held during the war.

A very nice mid-production Willys 'slat grille' MB! The hoodnumber is in drab blue and it doesn't have the black-out light on the fender (or the retro fitted kit for one)

a slightly used jeep

This too is a 'slat grille' Willys MB. Note the lack of a jarrycan carrier, no glove box and the early black steeringwheel. It seems to have been modified to a radio vehicle...

I Hate Moths

These might be slightly post war .

The first one i think is during the Berlin Air Lift.

The second shows what looks like an Air Transport Command logo.
