Does the "M44 " on the nomenclature label designate it as a NAVY spec item ? I thought that was what the "AN" stood for ARMY NAVY JOINT issue

I don't think so Carl. As you say A = Army and N = Navy...no need to duplicate it. Model of '44 maybe?

As I have understood it Ian , the early pattern AN6550 had a one way zip and a single breast pocket ,like I mentioned in the previous post , the later patterns had a 2 way zip and 2 breast pockets , how does that stand with your variant ??

 

May be the M is size medium 44 chest ???
