Sabrejet Posted March 5, 2014 Share #2 Posted March 5, 2014 Early war...'42? Standard cotton flying helmet also worn by the first parachute platoon in training. These helmets were very basic and can usually be found with added hooks to retain O2 masks and added cups for receivers. Her's one such example from my collection. Sabrejet Posted March 5, 2014 Share #5 Posted March 5, 2014 You're welcome. They're an essential part of any WW2 aviation collection as they were very widely used in the early 40s. They aren't what you'd call "rare". Decent basic ones can usually be bought for less than $50. Examples with all of the added accessories will naturally cost a little more. Sabrejet Posted March 5, 2014 Share #6 Posted March 5, 2014 BTW...it's been drawn to my attention that the First Paratroop Platoon were initially issued with the similar A8 flying helmet (as below)....but maybe some A9s too? The one illustrated has also been upgraded by the addition of attachment points for the O2 mask.
