Hollywood Portrayals Of Actual Military Figures

I thought it would be interesting to show some side by side comparison shots of actual historical military figures and the actors who have portrayed them on film. Sometimes the resemblance is uncanny while in other cases it is, shall we say, a stretch.

Obviously let's see some of the more obvious choices such as Ike and Patton, but let's also see some more obscure examples. In that vein, first up is Navy diver Master Chief Boatswain's Mater Carl Brashear who was portrayed by Cuba Gooding, Jr. in the 2000 film "Men Of Honor".

Robert Redford as Major Julian Cook in "A Bridge Too Far". I think they were going more for the star quality than an actual lookalike.

Tom Selleck seemed an unlikely choice to play Dwight D. Eisenhower in 2004's "Ike: Countdown To D-Day" but it was actually very good.

Robert Ryan as General Gavin in "The Longest Day"...rather miscast as Gavin was considerably younger at the time!
