Thanks again. Here is another one named to an officer in the 505th PIR that later served in the 17th ABN. Although an infantry officer, he seems to have served in a maintenance capacity. He was in HQ 505th and the 717th Airborne Maintenance Company of the 17th. The lack of an arrowhead may signify that he entered Normandy and Holland in one of the later glider serials. The jacket is completely Brit made with a mix of brit made and US insignia. He served in the North Carolina National Guard before and after the war, retiring as a LTC.

It looks like a Purple Heart ribbon is added, it is currently for sale.

I was the caretaker of this grouping for a short time last year, until I reunited it with the daughter of the vet.

 

Clair Hess served as a 1st Lt with the 501st PIR, with jumps on D-Day and Market Garden. He was wounded at both.

 

He continued his service post-WWII, eventually serving during Korea as an Intelligence Officer. Hess retired in 1969, a full-bird Colonel.
