O.G-Palmer Posted May 21, 2008 Share #2 Posted May 21, 2008 Im not shore what it is for, might it be for a life/aid jacket?
316th FS 324th FG Posted May 21, 2008 Share #3 Posted May 21, 2008 I think it is a strobe for a life jacket. Not sure what era though.
Brian Keith Posted May 21, 2008 Share #4 Posted May 21, 2008 It is a life preserver light, this one was made in Marion, IN by the Delta Electric CO. during WW II. It takes a "D" cell battery, it is just a constant light, not a strobe. This example with the saftey pin type attachment was made later in WW II, eariler models had a string or chain or cotton cord and a clip. There is a previous thread or two about Delta made products. Some had a red lens. BKW
sgtbrown Posted May 21, 2008 Share #5 Posted May 21, 2008 Breuninger in his "United States Combat Aircrrew Survival Equipment" states that the 761-A marker light had a metal body during WWII but had switched to a plastic body by Korea. Of course, we all know how "cast in stone" equipment dates can be! Here's my light I have in my permanent display: Tom P.S. The strobe version of this light is, I believe, modern civilian only. The strobes used by the military (again, according to Breuninger) are a totally different style.
sgtbrown Posted May 21, 2008 Share #6 Posted May 21, 2008 Another P.S.: The AAF lists the same USN-marked light in their "Reference Manual for Personal Equipment Officers". Tom
