NAVSTA Key West, Florida

The version Bearmon posted and an earlier one

Naval Base Key West - Key West Force

This is the old WWII/Korean War era Naval Base as opposed to the Naval (Submarine) Station which is on the southwest side of the island of Key West. The Naval Base has overall command of all facilities on Key West including the Base, Station, NAS, etc (see following document)

United States Naval War College - Newport, RI, Three generations of their patch

Naval War College 001.jpg

The Naval War College (NWC or NAVWARCOL established in 1884) is the staff college and "Home of Thought" for the United States Navy at Naval Station Newport in Newport, Rhode Island. The NWC educates and develops leaders, supports defining the future Navy and associated roles and missions, supports combat readiness, and strengthens global maritime partnerships.

The Naval War College is one of the senior service colleges including the Army War College and the Air War College. Additionally, the U.S. Department of Defense operates the National War College. The original Newport Asylum building can be seen on the far right, now housing the Naval War College Museum. The larger building on the left is Luce Hall.

N.A.I.T.F. POINT PINOS - (June 1954 to November 1961) Naval Air Intercept Training Facility, Point Pinos, California was established at the extreme tip of pine-covered Monterey Peninsula, overlooking the Pacific at NAF Monterey, also the grounds of the US Naval Post Graduate School.
post-2322-0-02200200-1527109123.jpg

"A particularly well named outfit is the Naval Air Intercept Training Facility, Point Pinos, Calif. Pinos is Spanish for pines. That’s appropriate, too, for the facility’s radar station is at the extreme tip of pine-covered Monterey Peninsula, overlooking the Pacific. As for the functional part of the name, that’s just what the facility does. Its main role is to train pilots and air controllers in the latest techniques of radar-controlled intercepts. (An intercept in this case means vectoring a fighter plane to a target plane.) In another role the facility assists carriers operating off the northern California coast by tracking their aircraft and relaying the plane’s flight plans to interested shoreside officials." NAMRA NAPLES - Naval Air Mediterranean Repair Activity

Commander Francis C. “Luke” Lukenbill became the first Commanding Officer of the newly established U. S. Naval Air Mediterranean Repair Activity (NAMRA) on 28 September 2001. The new stand-alone Repair Activity’s mission is to provide emergent, high quality, Depot-level structural repair to U.S. Navy and Marine Corps aircraft in the European and NAVCENT theaters with the ultimate degree of customer service. The command, located at the Naval Support Activity Capodichino, Naples, Italy, was previously a detachment of the U. S. Naval Air Pacific Repair Activity (NAPRA) Atsugi, Japan and now begins its maiden venture as its own command. NAMRA continues half century tradition of outstanding service to the Fleet in theater. As a Naval Air Systems Command entity, NAMRA reports directly to RDML Stephen C. Heilman, AIR 6.0, Deputy Director for Aviation Depots.

NAMRA originated nearly 50 years ago as a department of the Commander, Fleet Air Mediterranean (COMFAIRMED). At that time, COMFAIRMED identified the need for a Depot-level Maintenance presence in theater to maintain Navy and Marine Corps aviation in Europe, the Mediterranean, the Middle East, and North Africa. Originally designated as the Fleet Air Mediterranean Repair Activity (FAMRA), it was responsible for in-theater Depot-level In-Service Repair (ISR), Standard Depot Level Maintenance (SDLM), and Aircraft Service Period Adjustment (ASPA) inspections.
